WHY YOGA? AND WHY WELLNEST?

You don't need to be fit, flexible, or know what you're doing. Most people who walk through our door don't. What they all have in common is how they feel when they leave. Safe in your body, calmer in your mind, and happier in your heart.

With a teaching degree and a Masters in Psychology alongside a drive to bring community together and a burning passion to share yoga with the world - Wellnest was born. The things yoga does for your nervous system, and your head, are the reason she built WellNest.

A quieter mind The hour you spend on the mat is one of the only hours where you're actually in your body. Not your inbox, not your to-do list. That shift is real. And it carries into the rest of your day.

Stress and anxiety Yoga works on your nervous system directly, breathwork and movement together, not separately. Most people leave class noticeably calmer. Not "I should feel calmer" calmer. Actually calmer. Harriet's psychology training is the reason she teaches it this way.

Flexibility and strength You'll notice small things first. Easier to get off the floor. Less stiffness in the morning. It builds quietly and it sticks.

Sleep Regular practice changes how quickly you settle at night. Harriet's heard this from hundreds of students since she opened. The research says the same thing.

Body awareness You start to notice how you're standing. Where you hold tension. How shallow your breathing gets under pressure. It sounds like a small thing until you realise how rarely you check any of it.

Most people who find WellNest have been meaning to try yoga for a while. Maybe years. If that's you, Harriet built something specifically for that gap.

Most people who walk through our door don't know what they're doing either.

Meet Harriet King, your ‘Intro to Yoga’ guide and founder of WellNest

Harriet didn't come to yoga through a moment of calm. She came to it through the same thing that brings most people to her door; stress, a packed schedule, and the creeping sense that something needed to change.

What she found wasn't just a physical practice. It was a way of understanding the mind. The combination of eastern philosophy and western science, breath work, movement, meditation, and mindfulness working together gave her something she could actually use on the hardest days.

That's what we teach at WellNest. Not yoga as exercise, but yoga as a toolkit - practical, accessible, and built for people whose lives don't slow down on their own. Her mission is straightforward: to give you the tools to look after your mental and physical health even when everything feels like too much, and to show you that the capacity to feel better is already inside you.

At WellNest, Harriet runs all the behind the scenes - keeping everything running smoothly so that you can enjoy our beautiful space. She also hosts our pop-up events including such as Yoga Brunch Club, and works with local charities to run community sessions such as Special Needs Yoga and Kids Yoga Club.

When you walk through our doors, you’ll feel seen, safe and calm because you're in exactly the right hands.

  • A very beautiful space with welcoming, friendly teachers. I've tried a couple of different classes and there really does seem to be a class for everyone / your needs as they change. It's a growing business with more classes and events being added to the schedule all the time - so even more choice! Excited to have Wellnest in Kirkstall, we've needed a place like this. See you on the mat ☀️

  • Amazing variety of sessions, a wonderful space for yoga practice. Great offers for memberships and events. My new favourite place to be. Top tip do the double yoga session on the Monday, energising vinyasa followed by deep restorative, pure bliss!! Thank you Wellnest

  • This is the loveliest yoga studio I have ever been to! It’s so welcoming and open. If you’re a beginner, it’s a particularly great yoga studio to join. When they say ‘child’s pose is welcome at any time’ they genuinely mean it and I’ve never felt out of place taking a breather if I’ve needed. 10/10 recommend everyone joins ❤️

A few things people usually want to know

  • No. And it's the first thing Harriet hears from almost everyone before their first class. Flexibility is what yoga gives you, not what you need to arrive with. Every class at WellNest is taught with complete beginners in the room. The guide shows you what to expect so that when you walk in, nothing feels unfamiliar.

  • Yes. The guide is built for people starting from zero. No jargon, no assumptions. And at WellNest, Harriet and the team teach with first-timers in mind every session. There's no keeping up. The class meets you where you are.

  • For the guide: just a device and enough floor space to lie down. Nothing to buy. For your first class at WellNest: just yourself. Mats and props are all there. Nobody is watching what you're doing.

Your first yoga practice begins in your inbox.
